First Citizens Power Saver Club Donates Books to Local Schools, Libraries and Hospitals

(Mason City, Iowa)- First Citizens National Bank’s Power Saver Club recently donated books to local organizations as part of its “Check It Out” book program. The program is designed to encourage children ages 12 and under to read.

This is the twelfth year the Power Saver Club has donated books to local organizations. During this time, over 2,700 books have been donated. This year’s donated books include: The Wright Three by Blue Balliett; Pirates by John Matthews; Bats at the Beach by Brian Lies; and The Hello, Goodbye Window by Norton Juster.

“We encourage lifelong learning, and one way to start that habit is to begin when kids are young,” said Marti Rodamaker, President of First Citizens National Bank. “Each year we try to pick books that are related to something currently going on in the world around us. For instance, The Wright Three is a mystery that takes place in a Frank Lloyd Wright house, which, of course, has a local connection.”

First Citizens Power Saver Club’s “Check it Out” program rewards members for reading books on the list. Power Saver Club members were mailed a bookmark that lists over 80 titles to choose from. New books are chosen in the fall of each year with the help of local librarians.

The Power Saver Club at First Citizens National Bank is the complete banking program for children ages 12 and under and features a free savings account (with a $5 minimum opening deposit), reward points for saving, and special events. Children interested in joining the club can stop by the bank (with their parents and their social security number) or call the bank for more information.
